Rachel Stowe

My name is Rachel Stowe and I am from a small town in North Alabama called Hatton. My town was so small we had no red lights, only a singular caution light. I graduated with 72 people and decided to pack my bags and move an hour away to Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, Alabama, to pursue an associate’s degree in the health field. I quickly realized this was not my calling in life and decided to get a general studies degree while I was there. I also realized that I loved college and I wanted to stay longer so I had to choose which university I wanted to transfer to. I had it narrowed down between two universities; one where all my friends went, and the other which was offering me a significant scholarship.

I chose to transfer to Mississippi State University, where I knew absolutely no one. I felt at ease with this decision because of how nice and friendly my transfer student advisor, Katy Tucker, was. After some soul searching, I reclaimed my major to be Communication with a concentration in public relations. Since I’ve transferred to State, I have become involved in many clubs and organizations on campus such as Public Relations Student Society of America, Student Transfer Association, and Public Relations Association of Mississippi. In the summer of 2018, I had the opportunity to intern with Foley Sports Tourism in south Alabama working with their marketing and communications manager.

I learned a lot through that experience and plan to use my knowledge to further student involvement in the Starkville PRAM chapter as their incoming fall intern. I want to thank the officers of PRAM for giving me this opportunity and I look forward to working with everyone to promote such a wonderful organization!
